Construction Site Catering Sydney: Feed the Crew Without Slowing Down the Job
Feeding a construction crew isn't quite the same as organising lunch for an office.
You can have dozens — sometimes hundreds — of hungry workers coming off the tools at roughly the same time. Lunch breaks are limited, the food needs to be substantial, and whatever catering you choose has to work with the practical realities of a busy worksite.
That's where mobile catering can make things much easier.
Volkswurst brings freshly cooked German street food directly to construction sites, infrastructure projects, warehouses, workshops and industrial workplaces across Sydney.
Our vintage VW Kombi rolls onto site, we set up and fire up the grill, and your crew gets a freshly cooked lunch without someone from your team having to spend the morning organising food or standing behind a BBQ.
Whether you're planning a crew lunch, safety milestone, project celebration, subcontractor appreciation day or end-of-project event, here's why our food truck works particularly well for construction site catering in Sydney.
Construction crews need catering that can handle the lunch rush
One of the biggest challenges with construction site catering is timing.
On many worksites, a large part of the crew breaks at approximately the same time. That's very different from an office where people might wander through over an hour or two. When the lunch break starts, people want to eat.
Our Wurst Express package is particularly well suited to this style of catering. We arrive ahead of the nominated food-ready time, complete our setup and start cooking so we're ready when your crew breaks for lunch.
Guests choose from our German sausages, served in fresh bakery rolls with sauerkraut, grilled onions, grated cheese, German mustard and sauces.
It's straightforward, substantial food that's quick to serve and easy to eat — without turning a toolbox lunch into an all-afternoon event.
Proper food for a hungry crew
Let's face it: after a morning on the tools, a couple of tiny sandwiches probably aren't going to cut it.
Our German sausages are approximately 165g each before you even add the fresh bakery roll and toppings.
Depending on the catering package selected, options can include:
- Traditional Bratwurst
- Smoky Kransky
- Chilli-Cheese Kransky
- Fresh bakery rolls
- Sauerkraut
- Grilled onions
- Grated cheese
- German mustard and sauces
For larger events and celebrations, we can also offer additional menu items depending on the package selected, including giant Bavarian pretzels, Currywurst, chicken schnitzel rolls and German potato salad.
It's uncomplicated, filling food that's particularly well suited to feeding a large workforce.
It's not just about the Friday BBQ
There are plenty of reasons to shout the crew lunch.
Our worksite catering in Sydney is a great fit for:
- Project milestones
- Topping-out celebrations
- Safety milestones
- Toolbox lunches
- Staff appreciation days
- Subcontractor appreciation events
- Supplier-hosted lunches
- Client site visits
- Project launches
- Team reward days
- End-of-project celebrations
- Christmas lunches
Instead of asking someone from the team to buy the food, organise the BBQ, cook lunch and clean everything up afterwards, you can bring in a mobile caterer to handle it.
Your supervisors get to enjoy lunch with everyone else.
Why a food truck works so well for worksite catering
Construction sites don't usually come with commercial catering kitchens — and they don't need to.
We bring the kitchen with us.
Our restored vintage VW Kombi is a purpose-built mobile food setup. Where suitable vehicle access and a safe operating area are available, we can position the Kombi on site and handle the cooking and service from there.
We bring our cooking and serving equipment, food and catering staff and handle our normal setup and pack-down.
For the person organising the event, that's fewer things to coordinate.
Before the booking we'll work with you to confirm practical details such as site access, the setup location, power requirements, food-ready time and guest numbers.
If vehicle access is limited, we can cook using our Portable BBQ in a suitable outdoor area. For a suitable indoor serving area, Hot Delivery means Wurst Express prepared off site, transported hot and served by our staff for one hour; we clear our serving equipment afterwards.
Feeding 50, 100 or more workers?
Large groups are where planning the service properly really matters.
If 100 people all have the same lunch break, we need to know that before we arrive — not when 100 hungry people suddenly appear at the Kombi.
Tell us your approximate numbers and required food-ready time and we'll plan the cooking and service accordingly.
For particularly large workforces, staggered lunch breaks or separate service windows can also work well where that's practical for your site.
The aim is simple: keep the queue moving, serve the food fresh and get your crew fed.
How much does construction site catering cost in Sydney?
For straightforward crew lunches, our Wurst Express package starts from $17 per person including GST.
Wurst Express includes:
- One German sausage per guest
- Choice of Traditional Bratwurst, Smoky Kransky or Chilli-Cheese Kransky
- Fresh bakery roll
- Sauerkraut
- Grilled onions
- Grated cheese
- German mustard and sauces
- Setup and pack-down
- Up to one hour of food service
Minimum booking spend:
Monday–Friday: $1,100 including GST
Saturday, Sunday & NSW Public Holidays: $1,650 including GST
The minimum spend isn't an additional charge — it's simply the minimum total value of the booking. Travel charges may apply depending on the location of your worksite.
For larger crews, send us your site location, date, required food-ready time and approximate number of workers and we can provide an indicative catering estimate.
What about dietary requirements?
A construction crew can include plenty of different dietary requirements, so it's worth identifying these before the event rather than trying to solve them when everyone reaches the front of the queue.
Our standard German sausages are gluten-free. Vegetarian and vegan sausage options can also be arranged with prior notice. Halal options may be possible by prior arrangement for suitable events. Please confirm your requirements before booking.
If members of your team have specific dietary requirements, include those details when confirming your final numbers so we can prepare appropriately.
What do we need from your site?
You don't need to provide us with a kitchen, but there are a few practical things we'll discuss before the event.
- Safe vehicle access
- A firm and reasonably level setup area
- Suitable electrical power
- Arrival and food-ready times
- Approximate guest numbers
- Dietary requirements
- Site access or induction requirements
- Any PPE requirements for our team
- Wet-weather arrangements
- Any site-specific safety requirements
Every site is different. If your workplace has particular induction, access, security or PPE requirements, let us know when you enquire so we can plan for them ahead of the event.
Corporate invoicing and compliance
We understand that working with construction companies and corporate clients involves more than simply turning up with food.
Volkswurst is set up for professional workplace and corporate catering. We can provide GST-compliant quotes and tax invoices, and we carry $20 million public liability insurance.
A certificate of currency can be supplied when required.
If your accounts, procurement or site management team needs specific supplier information or documentation before we can attend site, let us know as early as possible.
Construction catering that feels like an event
A crew lunch doesn't have to mean pizza boxes, sandwich platters or putting one of your supervisors behind a BBQ.
Bring the BBQ to the crew instead.
Volkswurst combines substantial German street food, fast service and an iconic vintage VW Kombi to turn a worksite lunch into something people actually look forward to.
We provide workplace and construction site catering across Sydney for builders, contractors, infrastructure projects, warehouses, industrial workplaces and corporate teams.
Whether you're feeding 50 workers for a team lunch or organising a larger project milestone celebration, tell us where you are, when you need the food ready and approximately how many people you're feeding.
We'll help you work out the best catering option for your crew.
